Local and International Lions Clubs donate $130,000 to MRI in the new Selkirk Regional Health Centre

On Wednesday, June 14, representatives from the Selkirk & District Lions Club (District 5M11), Stonewall & District Lions Club (District 5M13) and Lions Club International Foundation presented a $130,000 cheque to Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Foundation for the new Selkirk Regional Health Centre's MRI fund.

Dr. Dan Lindsay, director of diagnostic services in Selkirk recognized the community’s long standing support for staff and patients at the hospital.

"Community partnerships are an important part of our hospital and a big reason we are able to offer these services closer to home for our patients," Dr. Dan Lindsay said at the event, “Thank you for the difference you have made in the kind of care we can offer our patients with the addition of the MRI.”

Also present at the event was Diagnostic Services Manitoba who is responsible for delivering diagnostic services like MRI to Manitobans in our facilities. This is the 12th MRI machine in Manitoba and only the third outside of Winnipeg. Patients will travel from throughout our region for MRI appointments at Selkirk Regional Health Centre.

The MRI was craned into the facility through an opening in the wall on May 23. Diagnostics services staff have been working to get the equipment ready for the first patients who will be seen after the hospital opens to the public on June 25.

Selkirk & District Lions Club were instrumental in getting the funding needed for the donation from Lions Clubs International. Lions Club International is the largest service club organization in the world. They are celebrating 100 years of service to their communities this year.

Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority thanks the members of the Lions Club District 5M11, District 5M13 and Lions Club International on behalf of the patients we serve across the region.
