05/25/2011 Two New Additions to Interlake RHA Board of Directors

The Board of Directors of the Interlake Regional Health Authority (RHA) has grown to a total of 15 members with two new appointments by Theresa Oswald, Minister of Health.


New to the board is Mitchell (Mitch) Obach of St. Laurent, who is teaching with the Lakeshore School Division and has worked at Lundar and Eriksdale schools. He actively supports youth athletics and has coached baseball and hockey. He’s currently president and head coach of the Interlake Thunder Midget football team. He has served as an elected board member on the Brandon Neighborhood Renewal Corporation and as an elected member of the Lakeshore Teachers’ Association.


Also joining the board is Don Pepe of Winnipeg Beach. After 40 years of self-employment in various businesses, the last 20 as a restauranteur, he recently retired and stepped back from Winnipeg Beach council after holding the positions of councilor and then mayor. Don has been president of the Lakeside Lions Club and Winnipeg Beach Legion. He has extensive experience as a board member including representation on the boards of Interlake Community Futures, the Interlake Development Corporation, East Interlake Planning District and Interlake Tourism Association. With a nine year history in the financial industry as a consultant, Don also brings to the Interlake RHA board his financial and legal expertise.


Each board member is expected to serve a three-year-term. Reappointment by the Minister is possible to a maximum of six years of service.


Board chair, Jim Rodger was recently reappointed to his second term as board chair. Other directors currently on the board who have been reappointed for an additional three year term include Debra Jenkins (Selkirk), Denis Fitzpatrick (Selkirk) and Muriel Alexander (St. Martin), who was recently re-elected by board members to serve as their vice chair.
