06/29/2011 Grand Opening of Arborg EMS Station
Arborg, Man., Wednesday, June 29, 2011  — The ambulances and emergency medical service (EMS) crew who service Arborg and area now have a place to call home.
Interlake MLA, Tom Nevakshonoff, attending on behalf of the Honourable Theresa Oswald, Minister of Health, was joined by: Randy Sigurdson, Arborg mayor; Harold Foster, reeve of the Rural Municipality of Bifrost; and representatives of the Interlake Regional Health Authority for a ribbon cutting ceremony at Arborg’s new EMS station this morning.
The station started operating earlier this month with four full time staff and additional casual staff. Until now, EMS staff had been housing ambulances in Arborg hospital’s maintenance garage and used the hospital staff lunch room as their base.
“Our EMS staff who are often working four days in a row at all hours require a place to call their own,” Nevakshonoff said. “The Arborg EMS station is modeled after other new stations in the Interlake that provide efficient work spaces with comfortable living quarters.”
The new station is strategically located near the hospital with quick access to major travel routes. Arborg station crew respond to calls throughout the northeast Interlake. Last year, staff responded to 668 calls.
“We are pleased to have contributed to the construction of Arborg’s new EMS station and to have been a part of this successful collaboration of the Province, Town of Arborg and Rural Municipality of Bifrost,” said Randy Lock, CEO, Interlake Regional Health Authority. “The staff members who service this area will benefit greatly from this new facility.”
Designed for two ambulances with paramedic work and rest areas and a training area, the station features geo-thermal heating and cooling, high efficiency windows and doors, and energy efficient lighting.
