On Feb. 17 - X-ray Services Temporarily Suspended in Eriksdale
Installation of new X-ray equipment and required renovations to be complete in March

February 13, 2014 – On February 17th, the X-ray equipment at E.M. Crowe Memorial Hospital in Eriksdale will be temporarily removed from operation for scheduled replacement. Renovations to the X-ray suite will also occur at that time to accommodate new and improved X-ray equipment. Patient safety and maintaining high quality standards are always top priorities of Diagnostic Services Manitoba (DSM) and the Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority.

Jim Slater CEO of DSM, the public organization responsible for delivering rural laboratory and diagnostic imaging services, explained that equipment replacement is routine.

“We recognized the X-ray equipment in Eriksdale was coming to the end of its working life, and in partnership with the RHA, planned for its transition out of service. The brand new X-ray contains improved patient safety features and will be operational in March this year,” Slater said.

Interlake-Eastern RHA CEO John Stinson said the RHA has already planned how emergency X-ray requirements will be addressed during the X-ray service suspension.

“On average, we take 200 X-rays per month in Eriksdale. Patients needing an X-ray will be referred or transferred to other facilities based on their health care needs at the time. E.M. Crowe Memorial Hospital’s emergency department will be available for non-urgent health concerns only. Patients in need of X-rays and critical care will be diverted to Ashern’s Lakeshore General Hospital,” Stinson said.

If you are experiencing an emergency please call 9-1-1.

Both CEOs sincerely regret the temporary inconvenience this may cause patients and their families in the Eriksdale area. All physicians in the Interlake-Eastern RHA have been advised of this situation and have been apprised of where to send patients for services. The nearest DSM X-ray service is located 20 minutes away in Ashern. Patients in Eriksdale or surrounding communities requiring X-rays for health care needs that are not urgent are encouraged to speak with their physician or nurse practitioner on where best to obtain X-ray services during the scheduled suspension of services.
