Interlake-Eastern RHA Now Accepting Saturday Appointments for Hearing Assessments
August 15, 2014 --In an effort to provide better access to health care services, Interlake-Eastern RHA audiologist, Stephanie Lau, is extending her hours of operation in Beausejour for one Saturday every month starting September 13.

“Saturday appointments will give people a new scheduling option they haven’t had before. Hopefully, we’ll see some patients who’ve not yet been able to come in,” Lau said.

Lau is opening on select Saturdays as part of a trial to determine if there is demand for Saturday appointments. She provides complete screening and diagnostic services for infants through to older adults and offers rehabilitative services for children under 18 years old. Appointments are available by physician or nurse practitioner referrals and self-referrals.

Symptoms that warrant immediate medical attention and referral to an audiologist for evaluation include active ear drainage, pain or discomfort in the ear, progressive hearing loss within the previous 90 days, sudden onset of hearing loss in one ear, acute or chronic dizziness, ringing in the ears (tinnitus) or ear or head trauma.

Lau is one of two audiologists practicing in the Interlake-Eastern RHA. Mamdoh Gerges is the audiologist practicing in Selkirk. There are no Saturday appointments being offered in Selkirk at this time. Residents from across the region are welcome to book a Saturday appointment with Lau.

To make an audiology appointment with Lau at the Beausejour Health Centre, call Brittany at (204) 268-7465.

Interlake-Eastern RHA has one of the shortest wait times in the Province to access audiology services.
