03/17/2011 Selkirk Hospital Construction Advances to Next Planning Phase
Stonewall, Man., March 17, 2011 — The new Selkirk Regional Health Centre is one step closer to reality. The Interlake Regional Health Authority (RHA) along with architects L.M. Architecture and Stantec have completed the design development stage for the new hospital and have received approval from Manitoba Health to proceed with the construction document stage.
“We’re at the stage where we need to specify the building design, engineering systems and building materials in order to issue tenders,” said Doreen Fey, Interlake RHA vice-president of planning.  “We’ll be issuing a piling tender in May and we anticipate construction starting this summer.”
The remainder of the tenders will be issued during the summer.
“As our progress continues, we have to acknowledge the contributions of Interlake residents and our staff who worked with us to identify the needs our new hospital will have to meet. We also need to thank the Province of Manitoba and Manitoba Health Capital Planning Branch who continue to work with us closely to make our new hospital a reality,” said Fey.
The IRHA is still awaiting final approval to build on the land situated between the current hospital and the recreational centre. Anticipated completion of the new hospital is 2013.
