COVID-19 testing still important—New community testing site location in Pine Falls

July 20, 2020

Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority is reminding people to remain cautious, follow public health guidelines and get tested when experiencing any cold or flu-like symptoms or if they have had any contact with someone who has been tested for COVID-19—whether they are showing symptoms or not.

“We encourage anyone to visit a testing site if they are experiencing symptoms or if they have reason to believe they may have been in contact with someone who is known to have COVID-19. No appointment is needed and you don’t have to be experiencing symptoms to be tested,” said Dr. Karen Robinson, medical officer of health for the region.

“If you have symptoms, it’s important that you self-isolate until you know the results of your test,” added Robinson.

Residents in the region can be tested at one of three drive-through sites:

• 35 Railway Avenue near 1st Street and across from EM Memorial Hospital in Eriksdale,
• 622 Superior Avenue near Manitoba Avenue in Selkirk, or
• 37 Maple Street at Pine Falls Health Complex in Pine Falls (moved from École Powerview School as of July 20).

Although the testing site location in Powerview-Pine Falls has changed, the testing experience at all Interlake-Eastern RHA sites remains the same. People are expected to have their health card on hand and remain in their cars, unless directed otherwise. Testing typically requires a swab of the inside of the nose while the person being tested remains in their vehicle.
