COVID-19 outbreak declared over at Pinawa Hospital

As of today, the medical officer of health has declared the outbreak over at Pinawa Hospital.  Restrictions put in place because of the outbreak are now lifted and the hospital is now operating as per usual.



HISTORY


January 3, 2022

As of today, the regional medical officer of health has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Pinawa Hospital. This means there is confirmation of at least two cases of COVID-19 being acquired within the facility. The facility will remain in outbreak until 14 days have passed without any new facility acquired COVID-19 infections occurring.

CURRENT RESPONSE:

• Outbreak protocols are now in place in the hospital. This includes isolating patients where necessary and adopting enhanced infection prevention and control procedures to prevent and minimize transmission in the hospital.
• All patients and family members of patients have been advised of the outbreak.
• Outbreak signage is up on the unit.
• Staff who work on site have been advised of the outbreak.
• All patients in hospital are being actively monitored for symptoms of illness and tested when required to determine the cause of their symptoms.
• All staff continue to be screened for symptoms prior to starting work.
• Any members of the public entering the hospital, CancerCare unit, clinic or diagnostics is being screened prior to entering the facility and provided with a medical mask that must be worn for the duration of the time in facility.
• Frequency of cleaning and disinfecting has increased with a focus on high-touch surfaces.
• Hospital visitation remains restricted with exceptions for end of life care.


STATUS OF HEALTH CARE SERVICE DELIVERY IN PINAWA HOSPITAL

Hospital visitation remains restricted with exceptions for end of life care.
The hospital’s emergency department is open.
The hospital is NOT accepting inpatients unless they have COVID-19 or have recovered from COVID-19.
Anyone with an urgent medical need is encouraged to attend Pinawa emergency department for care. Anyone requiring admission who does not meet admission criteria during this period of outbreak will be transferred to care outside of Pinawa.

We have enhanced our cleaning and other infection prevention and control protocols so coming to our emergency department when needed is safe. Our care providers want to see you if you need care.

We have enhanced our cleaning protocols so our clinic is a safe place to visit. All members of the community will be screened prior to entry and you will be provided and expected to wear a non-medical mask for the duration of their visit.

Diagnostics services are still available.
People are welcome to attend the hospital if they require diagnostics. All members of the community will be screened prior to entry and they will be provided and expected to wear a medical mask for the duration of your time in the facility. Please travel directly to and from your appointment.

CancerCare appointments will continue as usual.
People will continue to attend the hospital for CancerCare appointments. All members of the community will be screened prior to entry and they will be provided and expected to wear a medical mask for the duration of your time in the facility. Please travel directly to and from your appointment.

Telehealth appointments will continue as scheduled.
