Winnipeg Jets True North Foundation Donates
$10,000 to Camp Stepping Stones

Stonewall, Man., June 22, 2012—Camp Stepping Stones volunteers from the Interlake Eastern RHA attended a presentation ceremony this week in Winnipeg to receive a $10,000 grant from the Winnipeg Jets True North Foundation.
“It’s a wonderfully exciting day for camp and our volunteers!” said Audra Nesbitt-Hume, manager of palliative care. “This recognition of camp’s value by such a high profile foundation is something that gives us great pride. The financial support we’ve received gives us peace of mind that we’ll be able to offer camp again next year with continued community support.”
Camp Stepping Stones is a weekend camp for children aged seven to 17 who have experienced the recent death of someone significant in their lives. Palliative care staff in the Interlake region established camp in 2004 to provide a safe, supportive environment where grieving children and adolescents can feel free to share their thoughts and feelings with peers in the similar situations. Camp Stepping Stones has been running annually at Camp Arnes north of Gimli.
Camp is run by volunteers and it’s entirely funded through community donations. The Winnipeg Jets True North Foundation identified it as a funding recipient because Camp Stepping Stones focuses on health and wellness, education and character building, and it helps children deal with a very difficult change in their lives. In addition, the fact that this program is run by volunteers makes it a very deserving program to support.

“We are extremely proud to be able to support 44 organizations across the province and help bring recognition to the incredible work being done in our community,” said Dwayne Green, Executive Director, Winnipeg Jets True North Foundation.
