Patient Relations
While we strive to provide patients with the best care possible, we know that health care experiences do not always go as expected. When you have concerns, questions, or feel something could have been done differently, we are here support you.
If you have a concern about your care, we encourage you to first speak with your doctor, nurse, or another member of your care team. Many concerns can be resolved by talking with them directly.
If your concern is not resolved, you can contact Patient Relations. Our role is to listen and help everyone better understand the situation, in a neutral and respectful manner.
If you are raising a concern about someone else’s care, you may be asked to complete a Patient Advocate Agreement. This is to ensure privacy laws that protect personal health
information are followed.
When you contact us, we will:
• Listen to your concerns in a respectful, caring, and non-judgmental way
• Take time to understand your experience, what matters to you, and how you have been affected
• Honour your voice, culture, and lived experience
• Review information and speak with the care team if needed and with your consent
• Ensure you can include a family member, friend, Elder, or other support person in the process, if you choose
• Keep you updated along the way
• Help arrange a meeting with your care team, if helpful
• Offer to connect you with Waabishki Bineshiins – IERHA Indigenous Health for additional cultural, emotional, or spiritual support, if you would like
